Hey, I'm Sofía
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Madrid, Spain.
A few years ago, I relocated here with my family. What started as a temporary contract slowly turned into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Spain wasn’t in the plan for the long haul. Like many expatriate relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar processes, new routines, fresh expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built GearStallPaperFen
Most online guidance clustered around corporate relocation advice or superficial tourism material. What was missing was an authentic, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Spain.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)

- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Spain continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information is useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, feel free to reach out.
Cheers,
Sofía
